Public Relations consists Everything we as U.S. Daughters of 1812 DO which instructs and educates many other Americans whose knowledge of the War of 1812 is limited to their singing the Star Spangled Banner. Public Relations represents the Public Face of our organization while the National Scrapbook maintained at our National Headquarters and on the two online websites maintained by this chairman provide a record of activities engaged in by our members in furtherance of the objectives of U.S. Daughters of 1812 which are “to promote patriotism, to preserve and increase knowledge of the history of the American people by the preservation of documents and relics, the marking of historic spots, the recording of family histories and traditions, the celebration of patriotic anniversaries, teaching and emphasizing the heroic deeds of the civil, military and naval life of those who molded this government between the close of the American Revolution and the close of the War of 1812, to urge Congress to compile and publish authentic records of men in civil, military and naval service from 1784 to 1815 inclusive, and to maintain at National Headquarters a museum and library of memorabilia of the 1784-1815 period. We have a reporting problem. Only fourteen of our 42 state organizations submitted reports to this chairman. These reported activities and sent photos and newspaper articles featuring grave markings, parades, library displays and awards given to JROTC students and books to school children. . We have been more fortunate with regard to Newsletters and Scrapbooks. Five of our state societies produced excellent Scrapbooks. One of these scrapbooks, the scrapbook produced by the Tennessee Society. will be on display at Associate Council this year. We have more than thirty excellent newsletters produced by state organizations and chapters available on our war1812trails.org website which provide those who visit our website with a view of what our members do. I wish that everyone would visit our two websites. The Bicentennial website provides a record of a wealth of activities engaged in by our members as they first Prepared for the Bicentennial of the War of 1812 and then Celebrated it. The second War of 1812 trails website begins with the period after the War of 1812 concluded. We are now being challenged by our President National Lynne Schulman to “Keep the Spirit of the 1812 alive “by ‘ Remembering America’s Second War of Independence “ The War of 1812 Trails website includes bibliography and biographies of use to researchers, access to several videos contributed by members, informational brochures, and children’s coloring book on the War of 1812.
